Recently I read an article about people questioning the
correct title for the person that stands in front of a group of people during a
church service in musical corporate worship. The titles floated were music minister, worship leader,
lead worshipper… you get the picture.
I hopefully don’t get caught up in titles. That is the reason I’m asking you not to get caught up with
the title…Worship Architect.
I have been asked by friends around the country to give an
update on our Worship Architects and how it is going. Well we are in the middle of a 5-week run where the team is
planning the services. I am so
proud of the folks. They have
sought God for direction, connected with the speaker for the day, and are
bearing the spiritual responsibility for our corporate worship time
together. These last 3 weeks have
been incredible!! Here’s how the
last 3 weeks have gone.
10-18-09
Architect: Cheryl
Cheryl really embraced public scripture reading. On this particular Sunday these
scriptures really connected to the hearts of our church. Cheryl chose a video to set up our
slower worship time/Elder prayer time.
She also introduced a new song.
“I Will Exalt You” from Hillsong’s album Faith + Hope + Love. The scripture reading was intertwined
in this song. At the end of the
worship set we spontaneously broke into “Healer”. Powerful time!!
10-25-09 Architect: Amy
This Sunday we had the children come and worship with us for
the first portion of our worship time.
This is not what we usually do.
So Amy worked on the premise of the elementary students being in the
room with us. The kids were great
and added a ton energy! Amy
incorporated “Dessert Song” into worship time. We’ve done this song a couple of times to set something up
but this was the first time we asked everyone to sing with us. Amy planned in a great exchange of lead
vocals on the verses and bridge.
Closed with “Here in Your Presence”. We ended up going back to the bridge and hangin’ out there
singing “Wonderful, Counselor, Glorious, Matchless in everyway…(repeat). Great time!
11-01-09 Architect: Georgiana
Georgiana did a great job of going back in time and reviving
a song than did not seem to catch many months ago. “Sing, Sing, Sing” caught on very well this Sunday compared
to the other 2 times we had tried it.
Great moment. We have sung
“Thank You For Loving Me” by Tommy Walker many times for serving/set up communion. This was our first time to sing this
with the congregation. Our arrangement
had a key change to A so at the end of this song we broke into “Breathe”.
I am so thankful for this journey with the Worship
Architects. I am looking forward to this week. Next up Victoria – on deck Scotti J/Victoria and the student ministry band!
