July 5th Worship - "A Call to Fall"

Today our student ministry band lead the worship time @ FC.  They were so awesome!!!  Victoria did this great video to start our day introducing "A Call to Fall".  We took time today to fall on our knees and repent and pray for our country.  Wow what a great time!!!  Scotti and Victoria did an incredible job of architecting the service and then they both lead very well!!   Here's what happened:

Mother's Day @ FC

Mothersday_001 Wow what a busy day @ FC yesterday!  I am thankful for all of the folks who worked so hard to Mother's Day very special.  First as you entered the church @ every entrance you had your pic taken with your mom or your children.  Thanks to the 8 photographers and Toni for putting the slide show together in a very short period of time.  Thanks to Amy and Lee for keeping rehearsal going all morning.  Of course thanks to Cheryl for all of the work she put in this week to make all of the pieces come together.  All of the Worship leaders lead really strong!!!  I am proud of Jayson for continuing on the path of becoming a very strong male singer here @ the FC.  PTL!!  The players and Jay did a great job on P-31!!  Way pick it Ty!!  All we needed was a bunch of line dancers.  HA!  Thanks to Heather for learning "Somebody's Hero" for the slide show @ the end of service.

I was priviledged to speak for this service.  While the first part was fine i was totally excited about my Mother participating in the 2nd half of my message.  She took a few moments to tell her story and encourage Mothers in the journey of Motherhood.  We ended the message singing a song together.  She played and we sang a duet.  I love her with all of my heart.  She did such a great job speaking and singing.  I believe she was a real blessing to our church.  Sherie thanks for sneaking these pics from yourt seat!!  I will cherish them.

Busy Day............Great Day!

Cheryl & Mattie

What a great day.  It has been full!!  I have had meetings, sunday music prep, tonight's rehearsal prep, Wed Worship prep, I am writing a chart right now, and I am speaking this Sunday.  Mother's Day!!  I will be up late and then up very early in the morning to have my outline into the office by 8am.  We have had severe storms and now an incredibly sunny afternoon.  I have enjoyed the whole day and it is only 4pm.  Lord, I thank you for today!!

Mother's Day, what a great day to speak.  It is such an honor to give honor to the mother's represented here @ the FC. There is so much to say but I must keep it short, concise and to the point.  Wow, I want to encourage and honor the mom's here.  I pray that God helps be who I need to be this Sunday!!!!

Got to get back to it!!

Peace!

The Sunday After...

Wow, I know churches all over the world go all out for Easter Sunday.  Then usually when Easter is over most people in ministry are so exhausted that they "crash" or "retreat" to recover.  So many times I have seen Churches and people head to the Sunday after Easter with lower expectations and much lower energy.  Wow today I have made a decision to make today a great day with Him.  The truth is very simple.  He never changes...we do.  God is here, He is present, He is available for connection and worship and He is Holy!!!  Today make a decision because He already has!!

Be passionate about the Savior!  He is passionate about you!

Proud Dad

Dylan recently volunteered to speak @ CCS Jr. High Chapel.  He spoke this Wednesday.  Cheryl and I are so proud of him.  He did a really good job of staying composed and presenting what was on his heart.  We are most proud of his desire to take a shot at it.  When I was 13 I don't know how much public speaking I volunteered to do.  This is a big deal.  We are so proud of him!!

Songs as Bookmarks

Isn’t it funny how songs can remind us of a time in our lives? Songs can almost be like bookmarks in the story of our lives. The songs from the Journey album “Escape” remind me of a certain time in high school.  I remember the first time I heard contemporary Christian music and could not believe it.  I remember the song that my sister and I wrote for my wedding.  I sang it to Cheryl as she walked down the isle.  So many more…

There are songs connected to certain days like Easter that I remember so clearly.  I cannot tell you how many times I remember my Father leading “He Lives” on Easter Sunday morning @ our church. I could see how that song truly moved him.  I was walking through the kitchen last night singing “He Lives” and Cheryl asked me how many times I have sung that song.  I cannot count the many times I sang that song to the top of my lungs.

Last Sunday we did a version of “Jesus Paid It All” and we are doing another version this Sunday.  This song has had a strong impact on me.  Early this Good Friday morning I have been reflecting on the words of this song.  Why don’t you join me and see what this song may say to you.

I hear the Savior say
Thy strength indeed is small
Child of weakness....watch and pray
Find in me....thine all in all

Chorus:
Jesus paid it all
All to Him I owe
Sin hath left a crimson stain
He washed it white as snow

Lord, now indeed I find
Thy power and Thine alone
Can change the leper's spots
And melt the heart of stone

For nothing good have I
Whereby Thy grace to claim
I'll wash my garments white
In the blood of Calvary's Lamb

And when before thy throne
I stand in Him complete
Jesus died my soul to save
My lips shall still repeat

O praise the One

Who paid my debt

And raised this life up from the dead

O praise the One

Who paid my debt

And raised this life up from the dead

Have a Holy and Blessed Easter!!  I pray we make this Easter a bookmark in our lives.

Peace

Good Friday we are doing some stuff from the John 3:16 collection and using the format of Lucado’s book as a structure for the service – He Loves, He Gave. We Believe. We Live. I have asked 4 different pastors to share for 5 minutes on each topic with songs in between. We end with communion.

The songs we are using are:

Orchestra: How Beautiful

The Old Rugged Cross (with a video we created)

Choir:       God So Loved the World (Goss version of old standard, Word)

O Precious Lord (a cappella piece from an old Easter musical, He Lives, Word)

What a Friend (from 3:16, Lifeway)

                In Him (from 3:16)

Worthy the Lamb (from He Still Leads collection, Christ Church )

               * I really like the choir arrangement of Michael W. Smith’s Come to the Cross in the 3:16 book. We are using it on Palm Sunday.

Ensemble: Lead Me to the Cross

For Easter, we have made this a big outreach day and are hoping for lots of new faces.

Orchestra is planning Sing to the King as a prelude (arr. by Scott Bennett)

We are opening the service with choir singing Happy Day (Word).

Praise and Worship package is Beautiful One, Mighty to Save and Jesus Messiah

Choir also does He Lives (Word, Goss) at offering time.

For the message, our drama director has written a script that reenacts 5 scenes out of John 20. We are going for the look that Willow achieved with the Portraits of the Passion production a few years back … kind of beautiful and classic, Great costumes w/ a “less is more” concept for the set.  Between scenes there are 3 teaching moments by the pastor, 2 songs and connector videos featuring scripture passages.

Songs in the drama are He Knows My Name (Walker) and Come Home Running (Tomlin).

Steve Candler – New Hope  -Augusta, GA

As far as Easter for this year we're doing something different.  The last two years we've done vignettes with about 5 to 6 different scenarios... a small drama with a cast of 4 or 5 that last about 5 minutes  We'd do the short drama, then our Pastor would come up and speak about what just took place and share for about 5 minutes, then right to a related song as the next drama is getting in place. But... this year we're having guest speaker Dave Roever with us and we're using the format we use on a regular basis.

Which would be:  Opener: My Savior Lives, (then I'll greet the congregation followed by a time of fellowship). Then we'll go right into the first song of the praise and worship set as fellowship is winding down.

Praise and Worship:  "Happy Day" (Tim Hughes version), "You Saw Me" (from Hillsong / Saviour King), then to a short skit, followed by "Stronger" (from Hillsong / This is Our God)

Next we'll do the offering (Senior Pastor) and at the end of the prayer over the offering we'll go right into our last song before our guest is introduced, "In Christ Alone (with The Solid Rock) by Travis Cottrell.

For the end of the service I may do "Savior King" or "Jesus Messiah"... but not knowing exactly how Bro. Dave Roever will conclude, I'll have to be flexible and ready to change that if necessary.

Quinn Stanfield - First West – West Monroe, LA

Holy Is Your Name - Southeast Christian Church
Glory - Southeast Christian Church
By His Wounds - Mac Powell
Fountain of Life - Travis Cottrell
This is the Day - Travis Cottrell
How He Loves - Kim Walker (during card board testimonies)
Praise You -

We combine all of our teams from our contemporary and our traditional services and do 4 worship services. It's pretty much all worship. No drama or anything like that. This year we will use some dancers and a drum line from ULM..

Hopefully more to come....

Peace!
